Alec Bryson G.I. Fire.E

Prior to setting up in private consultancy and in teaching training courses Alec Bryson had over three decades of experience of working in high risk and changing environments.  He served as a Fire Officer with Lothian & Borders Fire & Rescue for 32 years and this experience gives him an extremely high level of practical expertise in working safely in all environments, from the extremes of collapsed structures to the comfort of an office setting. Alec understands Safety, and in particular Fire Safety, and how that applies and can be practically managed in the workplace.

His skills were gained and honed during a rich and successful career where he had experience of working in Operations (Fires, Extrication from Road Accidents etc, special services and collapsed structures), Fire Safety (Business Advice and Enforcement) and Training where he was seconded to the Scottish Fire Service College as Head of Training.

During his time in Training Alec, as one of only three from Scotland, was asked to attend courses in America to help develop Scotland’s resilience after the 9/11 attacks. He attended the world famous A&M University and on his return from there he used skills gained to advise the HMI of Fire Services on the best way forward and was involved in the development and implementation of the necessary courses to train Scotland’s Fire Fighters.

His time in Fire Safety, coupled with his operational experience, has given him insights and an expertise rarely seen in the private sector. A plain talker, he presents extremely well but explains the law and it requirements clearly and concisely. His rates are reasonable and he prides himself on only providing and charging businesses only for what they need with none of the flannel that can sometimes push prices up and cloud the important issue which should at all times be correctly managing Health and Safety. A qualified Nebosh trainer, he can help businesses comply with the law, both in helping with the Fire Risk Assessments but also with the Training.

For Fire Risk Assessments:

A written report will be produced that will:-

  • Identify people at risk
  • Identify fire hazards
  • Evaluate the risk and decide if existing safety measures are adequate
  • Record fire safety risk assessment information
  • Define the date by which the fire risk assessment should be reviewed

The benefits of that Fire Risk Assessment report are:-

  • It will satisfy the enforcing authority
  • It will ensure the safety of your staff and customers from fire
  • It will be carried out by a professional allowing you to concentrate on running your business
  • It is very cost effective.  (Statistics show that over 50% of businesses which have a fire never reopen!)
  • It will be in a clear and easy to understand/implement format

For Fire Safety Training:

The legislation dictates that staff must receive training in Fire Safety with someone having been trained in the use of Fire Fighting Equipment.

Alec and his team believe that businesses can prevent most workplace accidents by incorporating a high quality, well integrated training strategy. They recognise the issues facing organisations to fit with new legislation and believe training is the key to competitive strength. He and his trainers use innovative techniques to make courses interesting, fun and interactive. The courses they offer are as follows:-

Fire Safety
Training in the use of Fire Extinguishers
Management Awareness
Train the Trainer
Fire Marshal
Disabled Evacuation
