Neil MacDonald Health & Safety/ Fire safety Consultant
Neil, who hails from the Western Isles, is a trained and qualified building surveyor. He has extensive experience in the construction industry as a manager working with clients like local authorities, housing associations and the Ministry of Defence managing large contracts. He also ran his own construction business successfully for many years and became known for undertaking challenging one-off projects. Neil has managed repairs and maintenance for large insurance companies, housing associations and local authorities.

As a result of his career experience, Neil has amassed a huge breadth of technical and practical experience and has gained a comprehensive understanding of how buildings function and how H & S and fire safety needs to be worked into that.
Neil has continued to seek new challenges, and in 2008 qualified at degree level in Management. Since then he has completed the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health and the NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate.
Neil has been liaising with Athena Safety for the last few years on the client side, managing fire safety within care homes and sheltered housing and he found that he really enjoyed this side of things and decided to become further involved with Athena and has also set up his own consultancy, NM Health and Safety Solutions. His years of experience of owning and running his own business as well as his years of experience of project management for others mean that he is very well qualified to look at H & S from all sides. He believes strongly that a thorough and honest service is essential in an industry that has safety and welfare at its core.
On a personal level, Neil has two grown up sons and when not visiting family in the Western Isles likes soaking up the sunshine on a Mediterranean holiday with his partner Sandra.
